What cookies are
Cookies are small text files a website stores on your device. They let a site remember things between page loads — what is in your basket, whether you are signed in, which language you chose.
Cookies we cannot do without
Our shop runs on Shopify, and a handful of cookies are needed for it to work at all. Without them you could not add coffee to a basket or reach the checkout. These are set whether or not you accept anything, because the shop is unusable without them.
- cart, cart_ts, cart_sig — remember what is in your basket.
- _secure_session_id, keep_alive — keep you signed in and carry you safely through checkout.
- _shopify_y, _shopify_s — tell one visit apart from another so the shop behaves consistently.
- secure_customer_sig — keeps your account session valid after you sign in with an email code.
Cookies that help us understand the shop
We use Shopify's built-in analytics and Google Analytics to see how many people visit, which coffees they look at and where orders come from. Google Analytics sets cookies beginning _ga to tell one visitor apart from another and to measure how long a visit lasts. It tells us that forty people read a page; it does not tell us who they were, and we do not use it to identify you.
These cookies are only set if you accept analytics cookies. If you decline, we simply count you less precisely.
Marketing cookies
We do not run advertising trackers on this shop. If that ever changes, this page will say so before it does, and you will be asked first.
How to control cookies
When you first visit, you can choose what to accept. You can change your mind at any time by clearing this site's cookies in your browser and choosing again on your next visit.
Every browser also lets you block or delete cookies in its own settings. Blocking the essential ones listed above will stop the basket and the checkout from working, so the shop will not be much use to you.
You can also opt out of Google Analytics everywhere you browse, using Google's own opt-out add-on.
Cookies set by other companies
Payment providers set their own cookies when you pay — for example TWINT or your card issuer, as part of confirming the payment is really you. Those are governed by their own privacy policies, not ours.

If we add or remove a tool that sets cookies, we will update this page.
