Our philosophy
Go for progress, not perfection. The best coffee doesn't exist — but our beans are always in progress, and always tasty and special.
Our philosophy is simple: go for progress, not perfection. We know the best coffee doesn't exist — but we can promise beans that are always in progress, and always worth drinking.
Cenk Erlevent is the specialty coffee roaster behind Bean in Progress. Not only his creative background, but also his lived experience of six different cultures, are important ingredients in his passion for roasting.
Originally he has an artistic background in photography and film. Eventually he followed his passion and turned that craft towards specialty coffee. He has been in the business for over six years and worked as head roaster at well-known Basel roasteries — Kaffeemacher and Haenowitz & Page — before taking the leap and opening his own roastery.
A unique feature of his roasting is that multicultural past. To each roast he adds a little Turkish spice, French love, Spanish salsa, Italian espresso and, last but not least, some Swiss perfectionism.
Go for progress, not perfection. The best coffee doesn't exist — but our beans are always in progress, and always tasty and special.
We care about a sustainable and fair way to source our beans. Everything we roast is cultivated by selected farms we know and choose ourselves.
Progress in the sourcing and in the roasting alike. High-quality coffee matters to us — and so does the service around it.
We are a micro-roastery and specialty café in Basel. We have been in the coffee business for over eight years, and with our own beloved brand Bean in Progress for more than four.
