More about the coffee
Tibebu Roba is the farmer behind this beautiful coffee. He produces brilliant natural coffees in the Yirgacheffe region — proof being the 91-scoring natural he submitted at last year’s auction, which took home a handsome premium.
Tibebu is a charismatic man, an ex-preacher and a pioneer for the coffee producers of the region. In 1982 the Roba family found 8 hectares of land in the Chelchele Kebele. While developing his farm, he noticed his work reached the local community through the pickers and staff he employed; his wife opened a small fashion shop for men’s and women’s wear.
Tibebu attributes his success to the rich soil of Chelchele: “The abundant minerals in this red loam soil make my coffee beans taste different. Besides these favourable conditions, we nourish the plants with our own compost.”
Aside from farming coffee, Tibebu is still active as an Evangelical preacher and supports four local orphans in all their needs.
